The QUASAR consortium had a strong presence at EU PVSEC 2026 in Rotterdam, where five project partners presented research and practical solutions covering repair, reuse, repowering and recycling of PV modules.
The strong interest in these sessions confirmed that circularity, lifetime extension and end-of-life management are becoming increasingly important topics for the European solar sector. As QUASAR has reached the halfway point of the project, partners are already delivering valuable results and helping to shape the transition towards a more circular solar industry.
QUASAR contributions at EU PVSEC 2026
Repair
- Dow Silicones Belgium presented research on the effect of silicone repair coatings on the degradation of PV modules with faulty backsheets, demonstrating the potential of repair solutions to extend module lifetimes.
Recycle
- Norner AS presented work on the recycling of polymeric backsheets from PV modules.
- LuxChemtech GmbH shared advanced utilisation strategies for silicon-based industrial residues, supporting improved resource recovery from end-of-life PV modules.
Repower / Redesign
- Hochschule Offenburg presented research on high-efficiency Zebra-Life modules using 95% less encapsulant material, highlighting opportunities to improve circularity already at the design stage.
Reuse / Recycle
- EPRI Europe presented insights from a survey of PV recyclers and repair/reuse companies, helping to better understand current practices and future needs for module reuse and end-of-life management.
Valuable discussions and new insights
Beyond the presentations themselves, EU PVSEC provided an excellent platform to connect with researchers, industry representatives and policymakers working on the future of solar circularity. The strong engagement in QUASAR-related sessions underlined the growing momentum behind solutions that keep valuable materials and products in use for longer.
We also returned home with inspiring insights from many other projects and initiatives contributing to the transition towards a more sustainable solar industry.
Presentation papers available soon
To help share knowledge beyond the conference, the QUASAR presentation papers and related materials will be made available on our website shortly.
We thank everyone who attended our sessions, contributed to the discussions, and shared their perspectives throughout the week. Together, we are helping to pave the way towards a fully circular European solar industry.
If you would like to learn more about the results presented at EU PVSEC or connect with any of the presenters, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the QUASAR team.
Halfway through the project, we are already seeing promising results and look forward to continuing the journey towards a fully circular European solar industry.
